0.50 ml Semen Straw for Dairy Cows — A New Practical Option

We consistently listen to our clients and work not only according to industry standards, but also with real on-farm conditions in mind. That is why Poltavaplemservis is launching semen packaging in 0.50 ml straws as an additional format alongside the standard option.

The 0.25 ml straw remains the widely accepted European standard and an optimal solution for farms with a well-established insemination process. However, practical experience shows that in everyday farm operations it is not always possible to maintain ideal conditions at every stage — from thawing to insemination.

In such situations, the 0.50 ml straw offers clear practical advantages.

Why farms choose the 0.50 ml format:

  • a larger dose volume with an additional reserve of viable sperm cells;
  • higher tolerance to non-ideal thawing and handling conditions;
  • an effective option for repeat inseminations and more challenging cows.

We do not position the 0.25 ml and 0.50 ml formats as competitors. Each format serves its own purpose, depending on farm conditions, staff experience, and insemination technology.

Poltavaplemservis continues to combine modern breeding approaches with the realities of on-farm work — so that every dose delivers a result that is predictable, measurable, and economically justified.
